Huerta, one of our greatest advocates for farmworkers'
rights. Dolores co-founded the National
Farm Workers Association (which later became the
United Farm Workers Organizing Committee) with
Cesar Chavez in 1962. In 1966, she negotiated a
contract between the UFWOC and Schenley Wine
Company, marking the first time that farmworkers
were able to successfully collectively bargain with
an agricultural enterprise. She has an insatiable hunger for justice — La Causa — and is a tireless advocate
by devoting her life to creative, compassionate and committed citizenship. She has received
harsh criticism for encouraging people across the nation to march in protest of federal lawmakers' attempts

Cual seria mejor manera de celebrar el Dia Laboral que en compania de Dolores Huerta, una de nuestras gran defensoras por los derechos de los campesinos. En 1962 Dolores "co-fundio" (con Cesar Chavez) la Asociacion de Campesinos Nacional (que mas tarde se llamo la Comite Unida para Organizar Campesinos o UFWOC). En 1966 ella negocio un contrato entre UFWOC y Schenley Wine Company, marcando la primer vez que los campesinos pudieron negociar colectivamente con una empresa agrícola con exito. Ella tiene una "hambre" insaciable por justicia -La Causa- y es una defensora infatigable dedicando su vida a ciudadania creativa, compasiva y comprometida. Ha recibido criticismo severo por animar que la gente atraves de la nacion marche en protesta de los esfuerzos de reprensión severa en contra de inmigración ilegal por parte de los legisladores federales. Our Annual Fundraising took place on April 15 to the 29th when we celebrated Day of the Child from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Yes! this took place on the grounds of “La Nuestra”. We had live music, clowns, face painting, prizes and other amenities. Our community did not miss this event of great importance to our mutual cooperation for giving each other a helping hand. |
Nuestro Foundraising Anual se dio inicio a las actividades el dia 15 de Abril hasta el dia 29. En este dia celebramos el Dia Internacional del Niño con un programa que comenzó al medio dia hasta las cinco de la tarde. Si!... aqui en los terrenos de KBBF "La Nuestra". El programa tuvo la presencia de payasitos co su cara pintada, musica, regalos y sorpresas. Por supuesto la presencia de la comunidad fue notable y gran cantidad de personas nos visitaron. Los niños fueron los grandes personajes en esta gran actividad! |

Informational Memo to BBFI/KBBF Members
I am the attorney who advises the Board of Directors for KBBF and defending KBBF in the lawsuit brought by Voices Crossing Borders (VCB), so I know about the events referred to by VCB from a different perspective. And from my perspective VCB is putting out inaccuracies, mischaracterizations, exaggerations, and indeed falsehoods in their broadsides. Because I am the attorney for KBBF, there are attorney-client confidences that must be maintained, however I can point out some of the errors of their self-serving propaganda. For example, in one broadside they assert as a matter of law that the California "Brown Act" requiring open meetings for government boards applies to the Board of Directors of KBBF, a private nonprofit corporation. This of course is plain wrong. The Brown Act applies only to the boards and governing bodies of governments, municipal agencies, utility districts, etc. This type of mistaken representation of the law occurs frequently by members of VCB. It is true that VCB brought a lawsuit against the Board of Directors of KBBF, but it is not true that the mediation was "judicially mandated." As is the case in virtually all such mediations, the mediation was entered into voluntarily by both sides. And indeed the mediation has led to a conditional settlement of the lawsuit that will be finalized after the upcoming election scheduled for June 24, 2007. A mediated settlement of this kind is equally a "victory" for both sides because it means the result is based on an agreement rather than being imposed by the court. I urge all BBFI members to not be misinformed by the propaganda from Voices Crossing Borders which is working on the basis of its own agenda. Just because they are opposed to the current board of directors doesn't mean they are right or justified. Please seek out the facts and get to know the actual situation at KBBF before being tricked into supporting this group. The majority of the community that KBBF serves is pleased with KBBF. The loud minority of VCB has chosen to work against the current board of directors rather than with the board, which of course is their political right, but that right does not justify the wrong information they are giving people in their one-sided distortion of events. Nuestro Abogado nos Informa:Yo soy el abogado de consejeria de a la mesa directiva de KBBF y estoy defendiendo a KBBF en la demanda efectuada por Voces Cruzando Fronteras (VCF). Desde mi perspectiva, VCF esta publicando informacion incorrecta, exageraciones, malcaracterizaciones, y realmente, falsedades en sus hojas de propaganda. Porque soy el abogado de KBBF, tengo que mantener ciertas confidencialidades entre abogado y cliente, no obstante puedo indicar unos de los errores en su propaganda de interés propio. Por ejemplo, en una de sus hojas de propaganda afirman como asunto de ley que el "Brown Act" de California requiere reuniones abiertas para mesas de govierno y es aplicable a la mesa directiva de KBBF, una corporacion no lucrativa. Ellos estan completamente equivocados. La Acta Brown es solamente aplicable a mesas y grupos de govierno, agencias municipales, distritos de servicios, etc. Este tipo de representacion de la ley es incorrecta por parte de los miembros de VCF y esto ocurre frecuentemente. Es cierto que VCF efectuo una demanda contra la mesa directiva de KBBF, pero no es cierto que la mediacion fue "asignada por mandato judicial." Como es el caso en casi todas mediaciones, la mediacion fue ingresada por voluntad de los dos lados. Y ciertamente de esta mediacion ha resultado en un acuerdo condicional a la demanda que sera finalizada despues de la elección inminente de Junio 24, 2007. Un acuerdo mediado de esta manera es "victoria" para los dos lados porque es basado en un acuerdo en vez de ser impuesto por la corte. Les recomiendo a todos los miembros de BBFI que no sean malinformados por la propaganda de Voces Cruzando Fronteras quienes estan trabajando en base de su propia agenda. El hecho que se opongan a la mesa directiva presente no quiere decir que esten correctos o que lo que hacen es justificado. Por favor enterese bien de y conozcan la situacion verdadera de KBBF para no ser engañados en apoyar este grupo. La mayoria de la comunidad que KBBF sirve esta satisfecha con KBBF. La minoría ruidosa de VCF ha escogido trabajar contra de la mesa directiva presente lo cual es su derecho politico, pero ese derecho no justifica la informacion incorrecta que ellos le dan a la gente distorsionando los hechos cuando solo dicen lo que les conviene. |
BBFI/KBBF Board Accomplishments
BBFI/KBBF's Board of Directors has worked collectively and tirelessly with the office staff, standing committees, and volunteers to accomplish a long list of administrative and structural improvements. Among the most significant achievements are: management of finances to meet the expenses for payroll, liability and workers' compensation insurance policies. Remodel projects for the on-air studio, the guest studio, the ramp, and the conference room were completed with volunteer help. Other structural difficulties addressed and resolved by this Board are issues with the septic tank, as well as the need to allocate appropriate funding for the new antennae. Our membership has been increased by over 200% new members.
La Mesa Directiva de BBFI/KBBF ha trabajado colectivamente y infatigable con los empleados de la oficina, comites, y voluntarios para lograr una lista larga de mejoramientos administrativos y estructurales. Entre los mejoramientos mas significantes son: manejo de financias para sufragar los gastos de payroll, polizas de seguro contra daños y compensacion para trabajadores. Proyectos de remodelo de los estudios, la rampa, y cuarto de conferencias fueron completados con ayuda de voluntarios. Esta mesa tambien resolvio asuntos con el sistema de desaguaderos, y recluto fondos para la antena nueva. Tambien logro el aumento en membrecia de un porcentaje mas alto de 200.
